Crosby, Stills & Nash released their Demos through Atlantic/Rhino. It’s a very interesting release for the CSN fans as it shows how these songs came to be. The 12 cuts collected here ended up on many varied releases from the band members. The songs by Stephen Stills and Graham Nash sound very close to what we got on the original records. However, David Crosby’s songs are really in early stages here and often do not resemble the originals we are used to. Almost Cut My Hair for example is nowhere close to the anthem it eventually became. The same goes for Déjà vu, although this one already had many of its initial elements in place. Demos is a great document showing how hard these musicians had worked to bring out the greatness out of the music. It’s a great compilation for the die-hard fans of CSN and satellite projects, but an average listener could probably live without this record. This is the second release of this kind, the first one being the Stephen Stills demos. Both releases very interesting and intriguing. There is a talk of Stills/Hendrix album recently unearthed from the archives. So, there will be more material surfacing in the next few years.
