Gary Moore – The Definitive Montreux Collection (Eagle Eye Media)

Gary Moore is one of the most original guitar players. His unique tone and feel, and tremendous delivery always guarantee a great performance. This 2 DVD (1 CD) set focuses on the 90s, with one exception of the 2001 show. At that time, Gary Moore, turned to blues, but still managed to play some rock here and there. Blues however is the dominant style here.

The first disc contains two shows, one from 1990, and the other one from 1995. The difference between the two is big, despite being at one with the guitar, Moore comes across more confident in the 1995 show. And the only way to truly spot that is to see both concerts one after the other. His playing is great, and his technique speaks volumes.

The second discs included three shows: 1997, 1999, and 2001. It’s a very lengthy disc, but is filled with some true pearls. Moore continues to shine. His playing and the delivery is top notch. He pulls some real gems from the past like Out In The Fields, and Parisienne Walkways. It’s a shame Phil Lynott is not around to help him sing both of those songs.

Finally, there is a CD which is like a best of all of these performances. It’s a very nest compilation, and nice preview of what the DVDs have to offer. Personally, I prefer to listen to the full concerts, in this case not only listen, but watch as well.

Gary Moore has not toured United States since 1987, and many feel his absence is long overdue. This DVD set is as close as the US fans may get close to seeing Gary Moore at this point. Not to mention a new generation of fans born since then who cannot even recall his last visit here.
