Grateful Dead is still alive through its impressive live files. The new release is titled To Terrapin: Hartford ’77. It’s a triple disc release, which means it’s a complete show. I’m sure this recording used to float around as a killer soundboard in the trading circles. Here we have the official release, and it’s a very impressive package musically and artistically. The recording finds Grateful Dead in their prime, just about to release Terrapin Station, but already trying the songs on the unsuspecting audience. Many of which stayed in the set for good. The quality of the recording is very clean. The band plays well, and there are no technical difficulties. The three CDs are packaged in a digipack. The set has nicely drawn cover with elements of the Terrapin Station thrown in. It’s all in good taste. In addition, there is a booklet explaining everything about this show. It’s very informative, accompanied by rare photographs.
