Jackson Browne - Going Home (Eagle Vision)
I recall seeing this on cable TV years ago, and remembering how impressed I was with Jackson Browne performing live. I was under the impression this release features the current tour, but it turned out to be the legendary Disney Channel performance. And what a great treat it is to be able to see that show again (and again,) own it, and be able to get back to it any time you please.
The show opens ups with "I'm Alive" off the album under the same name. What a great track to start with, not to mention a great album. Then it's just one classic after another. Songs like "Doctor My Eyes," "The Pretender," Before The Deluge," or the anthemic "Running On Empty" need no introduction at this point. You hear them just about every day on the radio. But it's the lesser known songs that really make this concert so special. Jackson Browne isn't only about the hits, there are plenty of deep tracks that are lesser known, but of equal importance.
This concert just flows, the spacing of the key tracks is ideal, making room for everything else Browne did in his long career. There are some special guest lending Browne a helping hand. Two thirds of CSN, namely David Crosby and Graham Nash make a special appearance. As does David Lindley, and Jennifer Warnes. But even without these special guests, this is still a great show.
Not only is this a concert, but there is a documentary component thrown in as well. And it's very effective how the present time mingles with the past. What's best about it you ask? It's how it all balances itself out in a perfect agreement.
"Going Home" is a great document, and a fantastic testament to a great American songwriter, who is still very active, writing great records, and continually touring.
