Jeff Beck - Rock'n'Roll Party Honoring Les Paul (Eagle Vision)

This DVD is just rock'n'roll fun. It's good to hear the completely stripped down music, played and sang with a drive. Jeff Beck is celebrating the great Les Paul with the help of Imelda May and her band. Other guests turn up to be part of the fun as well. Gary U.S. Bonds, Trombone Shorty, and Brian Setzer join Beck and revive the spirit of rock'n'roll. And their contributions are really stand out. Considering how far the music have gotten from the original recipe, this is a unique concert in itself.

Jeff Beck sounds fantastic, throwing his signature tone all over the place. He sounds fantastic, especially on the two tracks by The Shadows. Britain's answer to The Ventures if you will. But it's the Les Paul tracks that take the center stage here, and it's a very sincere and honest tribute to a fallen pioneer.

Watching the performance one can't deny the sincerity with which all of the songs are played. The love Jeff Beck possesses for those songs is obvious and genuine, and he gives it his best. It's very far removed from what he does on his own, but when you see him perform the songs he grew up with, it's easy to spot where his influences came from. In a way, this might be the best musical documentary Jeff Beck ever released. Great fun all the way through!
