The Kinks – You Really Got Me-The Story of The Kinks (ABC Entertainment)

This is a visual history of the The Kinks. Using live clips, interviews, and narration the producers of this DVD tried to narrow down the history of the band. As a fan of The Kinks I know how hard it is to come across any footage from this band, and there are some rarities here which justify this release. When it comes to quality, it is not the highest, nor is the editing a first class. The DVD comes across as if it was done by the fans that don’t really have the budget, or skills to really make it come to life, but certainly mean well. There are some cool things about this program, but generally it falls short of what it promises to be.

I’m not sure how much input The Kinks themselves had in this project. Something tells me they didn’t have any input at all. It’s a great idea that didn’t materialize properly. For huge fans of The Kinks anything with the band’s logo will be a treat, but I believe the opinions will be divided among the fans as well. If you love The Kinks get it by all means, but if you’re looking for high quality product you may want to look elsewhere.
