Maltese Falcon - Metal Rush (Metal Mind/MVD)
I remember seeing this release in the record store, and never having enough money to purchase it, or simply buying another hot item of the day. Twenty some years later I’m finally hearing Metal Rush for the first time. What a great album it is, and what was I thinking not getting it back then? Well, better late than never. Maltese Falcon was a band from Denmark. There was no buzz about them at the time, but they were a great band. This is a very traditional metal sounding record. Some Maiden influences come to mind, but it’s not to the point where it sounds like a copy band. Listening to this material now, it still feels fresh and exciting. The early 80s had a special magic to them, and that’s reflected on Metal Rush. Maltese Falcon is no longer with us, but their bass player, Hal Patino, was seeing playing with King Diamond, and Force of Evil in the recent years. This reissue comes in form of a digipack, and is limited to 2000 copies.
