The Michael Schenker Group - The 30th Anniversary Concert-Live In Tokyo (Inakustik)
In the last few years Michael Schenker became a very reliable performer. He was always an excellent and influential player. Generations of players modeled themselves on his technique and style. But, it was the personal life that often took the center stage, and affected his career.
Since reuniting with the original singer, Gary Barden, everything appears to be working, and let's hope it will stay that way for years to come. The DVD shows the entire band performing in front of an enthusiastic Japanese audience. Just like the historic "One Night at Budokan" released back in 1982, the band is back and they do it again.
Michael Schenker is playing with true fury, he is nailing every single solo, and does not shy away from expanding his already established standards. Gary Barden is singing great, proving once for all he is the most definite singer for the band. And there were many good singers along for the ride. Barden's vocals however complement Schenker best.
The performance is based around the first four studio albums, and a few UFO classics. A very balanced set guaranteed to keep all Schenker fans satisfied. It's the quality of the performance that elevates it above average. This isn't a one off either. Having witnessed several recent MSG concerts, the band as enthusiastic in Tokyo as they would be in any setting, but having a large and enthusiastic audience certainly helps.
Technically brilliant, emotionally charged, and sonically satisfying.
