Roy Orbison - The Last Concert (Eagle Records) *****

On December 4th, 1988 Roy Orbison played his last concert, two days later he complained of chest pains, went into the hospital and passed away. Did he know it was going to be his last concert when he played? Of course he didn't. Orbison just did what he does best, and he certainly hoped for many more concerts to come.

This performance is very solid, Orbison pulls out the hits, and there are plenty to choose from. He plays and sings great, no indication of what's to come at all. This live album is a great legacy to a rock'n'roller who gave his best, and stayed true to his calling to the very end. Also, in that time frame, Orbison had a little bit of a revival. He was part of Traveling Wilburys, a super group at the time, and scored big with "Handle With Care." This album however is strictly Roy Orbison material, the way he played on his very last night on stage.

"The Last Concert"
is a great and a significant live record. Its release is fully justified, especially after 22 years since it was recorded. The fact this recording was captured is a miracle as well. Orbison is gone now for over two decades, but his music will live on forever.
