The Smiths - Complete (Rhino)
The Smiths are often described as the most important band of the 80s. Whether that's true or not remains to be seen, but the band certainly left an enormous mark on the music business, and their following is as strong as ever. Their brand of indie alternative rock quickly won a very dedicated following. Not bad for a band that split up in 1987. Many campaigns had been organized to bring the band back, but unsuccessfully thus far.
This reissue set includes all of The Smiths albums delivered here in re-mastered mode. The albums include: "The Smiths," "Meat is Murder," "The Queen is Dead," "Strangeways, Here We Come," "Rank," "Hatful of Hollow," "The World Won't Listen," and "Louder Than Bombs." In small box, we get the entire output of The Smiths. Each record is reproduced as small vinyl replica, including even the inside envelope containing lyrics and all other info. This absolutely makes sense, as The Smiths were active during vinyl's golden age. The band is also known for releasing many EPs, and were a real joy for the collector back in the day. "Complete" is a superb collection, and a must for any fan. Even after 20 years, these records possess a lot of magic, and sincerity, not heard since.
A perfect collection, including the band's four, studio albums, a live record, and three compilation sets. Completely faithful to the originals, and filled with incredible, timeless music. And who knows, maybe one day we'll hear it again on stage.
