The Rolling Stones - Stones In Exile (Eagle Vision)

The re-release of Exile on Main St. spawned a big campaign on all fronts. There are countless features regarding the album, and some deep discussions about how it was put together. Finally, there is a DVD which probably is the best document of all available. Stones In Exile is a great collection of footage, photographs, and interviews with all band members and the production crew who were involved in making the record. What’s best about it is how accurately it captures the time it all went down.

The band had to leave their native England for tax reasons, and learn how to function in France. Stones had no problem adjusting to a new setting. They appeared to be very focused on the recording, and the partying too. The DVD however, shows the band as very natural human beings. It shows them doing simple things like being a family man. On the other hand, this a very creative time for the band captured in images for us to see some 40 years later.

Stones In Exile is a fantastic treat for any Stones fan to see. There is so much great footage, and the interviews are priceless. Nobody is holding back, and trying to be nice. They say how it was, and have no problem talking about the good and the bad, which makes it for a very balanced and honest document. The only bad thing about this release are the interviews with some of the current stars who truly appear to be lost and misplaced when talking about the Stones and Exile on Main St, or a band having to leave their country for tax reasons. Other than that, this DVD truly has a purpose, and should be included with your copy of Exile on Main St. of course.
