Tangerine Dream - Zeit (Esoteric Records)

The early days of Tangerine Dream were incredibly experimental. The band was trying to find a proper way of expressing themselves, which they eventually did. "Zeit" is a very transformative record. It shows Tangerine Dream as a band coming out of the dark, and finding its own purpose. At the same time, it's a very dark record, filled with intensity and space.

Tangerine Dream went through several reissue campaigns, but it clearly appears this version actually offers something new. In addition to the album, there is a second disc of live recording from 1972, the same year the album was released. It's a real treat to the fans, and it's all in one package. There are very detailed liner notes, informative, insightful, and accompanied by some rare photos.

Froese, Franke, and Baumann are the pioneers of electronic music, and "Zeit" was a great accomplishment back in 1972. Years later they overshadowed that album with future releases, but it will forever remain the foundation for what was to come. Produced by Dieter Dierks who later came to be known as the architect of Scorpions' great success in the 80s. Even after 40 years, "Zeit" still sounds mysterious, and full of surprises.
